2001 Calvin & Chapel Ringers Handbell Tour Switzerland
Next day Previous day Return to Tour Summary
Hi Bell Parents and Friends,
The Friday evening concert at Auditoire de Calvin in Geneva was great - perhaps
the ringers' best. The acoustics were excellent, we had a good audience
(maybe 150), and the ringers were really focused. Prior to the concert,
members of the Calvin Church and Scottish Presbyterian Church provided a
dinner for us.
On Saturday, we had a very early departure (6:30 AM) for Zermatt. When we
arrived in Zermatt, the weather was perfect. The Matterhorn was magnificant.
We took the cog railway up to the top of the Gornergrat Mountain
(about 10,000 feet) with spectacular views from the top. At 4 PM, we began
a concert on the front lawn of the
Grand Hotel Zermatterhof.
The beautiful sounds of the bells attracted many tourists who were
strolling on the main street of Zermatt. The ringers looked and sounded
great. Then, following a dinner provided by the hotel, we began the
long trip back to Arlesheim.
After a short night's sleep, we were up very early again to depart for
Lausanne at 6:45 AM. In Lausanne we participated in the Sunday morning
service at the Anglican Episcopal
Christ Church.
The bell groups rang; Pastor John read the gospel and participated in
the communion service; Edda, Dawn, and George sang in the choir. Then
after the service, the bell groups presented a half-hour program which
was greatly appreciated by the attendees. The members of the church
provided a very tasty lunch which we really enjoyed. After lunch, choir
director Stephen Collyer gave us a short tour of old town Lausanne
including the magnificant Cathedral de Notre-Dame. Then we boarded
the bus to return to Arlesheim for dinner and packing for Monday's
flight home.
We are all doing well and have really enjoyed our trip. We plan to leave
Arlesheim at 7:15 AM for our 10:45 AM flight from Zurich. We should arrive
in Newark at 1:55 PM and hope to see you at the church between 4:00 and
4:15 PM.
That's all for now -- see you soon.
Delaine and George
