Tower Hill Missions

Katrina Update      Children's 2005 Missions Booklet      Mission Causes Booklet      Outreach Ministries

Tower Hill members have always been a very generous congregation. This generosity expresses our love for those both near and far. We support many brothers and sisters in Christ in their work around the world through our mission giving. We also support them here in the Red Bank area through our mission giving and through our time and talents. About eighteen percent of our offerings, general and flow-through, go to missions.

There are many opportunities to express this love of Christ through our mission work locally. This section highlights some of those ways. If you are seeking a way in which to express your Christian love, with more than your financial contributions, you may want to become involved in local missions or worthy causes with which many of our members are involved. Some of the areas of helping others are:

US Missions:
  • Aslan Youth Ministries

    Manna Closet
The Manna Closet program of the First Presbyterian Church is an active ministry run 52 weeks of the year by the Board of Deacons. Food is collected through donations. There are barrels located throughout the Church buildings.

Donated, non-perishable foods are placed in these barrels any time during the week. Food donations are also solicited from groups within and outside of the Church, (Sunday School classes, Scouts, youth groups, deacons, etc.).

The food is stored in a closet in the Sunday School building. People in need of food come to the attention of the Manna Committee through a referral system, bags are packed accordingly and the food is distributed, usually by way of pick-up by the client.

Turnover of the food is generally quite high, with the need for donations of food continual.

Praise God! "You give them something to eat." Mark 6:37. How to help? Place non-perishable foods in the Manna barrels at anytime. Please click here for our current needs.

Eva M. Russell School / Dominican Republic Mission Trip
Our church has supported the Eva M. Russell School in the Dominican Republic for over 10 years. These kids come from broken homes and have been rescued from the streets. Over the years Tower Hill has helped the school grow from 35 children and a classroom in a chicken coop to 200 children in proper classrooms, library, cafeteria, kitchen, playground, orphanage and dental clinic, all built with major help from our congregation. But for every child in school there are five standing at the chain link fence looking in...

    Home of the Good Seed
The Home of the Good Seed is a Presbyterian mission in Sao Paulo, Brazil, for indigent children, often those we would consider orphans in the US. It also cares for children suffering severe abuse. The Home of the Good Seed currently cares for over 20 children in a Christian setting, and has provided care for almost 50 children over the last 10 years. Without The Home of the Good Seed, these children would be indigent and, most likely, homeless, as shelter in the Sao Paulo slums is at a premium.

    Gospel Growers
Gospel Growers, Inc. is a Christian organization that addresses the spiritual and material needs of the Haitian people in the Southwest part of Haiti. Gospel Growers supports 11 Christian schools, sponsors a Christian Radio Station, gives Bible seminars to the many small churches in the nearby mountains, and finances a dispensary to help with the medical needs of the people. Sam Rice from Gospel Growers gave an inspiring seminar at Tower Hill in June 2006. Click here for more information about Gospel Growers.

    Rev. Dinah Abbey-Mensah
The Rev. Dinah Abbey-Mensah is a Presbyterian minister in Ghana, West Africa, who attended Tower Hill when she was at Princeton Theological Seminary. Dinah has dedicated her ministry to helping impoverished women and children in Ghana. Dinah enabled African women to start a small batik sewing business.

    Europe/Asia
Tower Hill supports sevreal missionaries in Europe and Asia focused on Bible and training material translation and training national partners including St. Petersburg, Russia, and China.

    Church World Service CROP Walk
Raises money for local food banks and other food centers around the world. Members of the staff and congregation support the event each year and would welcome help and participation on Walk Day.

    Tower Hill Church Justice League
The Tower Hill Church Justice League was formed during the winter of 2005 by some members of the senior high Bible Study. Having goals similar to those of Superman and other heroes of the original cartoon from which we derived our name, the Justice League, our youth mission group, works on behalf of the weak to bring justice to the world.

The THC Justice League aims to:

    • Pray for victims across the world (because prayer works!!),
    • Educate others about present injustices,
    • Fundraise for the THC Justice League fund. The money will be donated to larger justice-seeking organizations, such as the International Justice Mission and the Genocide Intervention Fund.

Love what God Loves. Hate what God hates...

    ...hate injustice.
