Adult Ministries

Adult Bible Studies

  • Connections takes place every Sunday at 10:45 a.m. in the Parlor. Faith, Fellowship, and Fun! A short, dynamic Bible Study in small group settings; a chance to share some fellowship time; and a time to grow in our faith. Past studies include "The Incomparable Jesus, Experiencing the Power of Christ", "Follow Me", "Essential Christianity: Practical Steps for Spiritual Growth", "Meeting God: Psalms for the Highs and Lows of Life", and "Getting a Grip: Finding Balance in Your Daily Life".
  • Monday Bible Study held every Monday at 9:00 a.m. in the Parlor. This lively discussion group studies the Bible passages for the following Sunday from the Revised Common Lectionary, a three-year cycle of Bible readings.

Young Adult Bible Studies

  • The WORD is a Bible study for young adults that meets every Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. in Room 204 (but subject to change). The WORD is a unique place for young adults to come and grow in their faith. Our goal is to not only study God's word, but to seek to understand and apply it to our lives. Faced with career, college, and relationship decisions, our hope is that through fellowship, prayer, and study we can grow in our relationship with Christ.
  • NEW! Beginning October 17, join us each Wednesday evening at 7:30 p.m. in the Parlor for our new video series by noted Christian author Phillip Yancey titled, The Jesus I Never Knew led by our seminary interns, Cindy Schwarz and Matt Puffer. Discover a more accurate, dynamic, and biblical portrait of Jesus. Strip away layers of tradition, stereotypes and cliches. Gain new confidence in the person of Christ. Come for study, fellowship and discussion. Everyone is welcome!

The Bible Study and fellowship of small groups is a very good way to expand your commitment to God's Word and to the family of believers.

Various Other Studies and Small Groups
Ministers and Lay Members also offer various opportunities for study of religious subjects during the year. Check your bulletin for these valuable courses.

"ACTS" Theater Group
Periodically, the Acts Theater Group, under the direction of Marti Bookstein and Charles Harris, presents a performance. At that time auditions for vocalists and actors are held. Volunteers are always needed to help with sets, costumes, and programs for the productions. Watch the bulletin for an opportunity to be part of this endeavor.

Harbour Lights Christian Singles
Harbour Lights is an adult Christian ministry focusing on singles searching for a safe haven for spiritual and social growth. Based at Tower Hill, we warmly welcome friends of all faiths and denominations. The typical monthly schedule of events includes a social event (usually on the second or third Saturday), such as dances, pot luck dinner and game nights, picnics, dining out, and movie nights; and a "Parlor Talk" discussion on a topic of interest to singles on the last Friday at 7:30 PM in the Parlor. Parlor Talks focus on such topics as life issues, personal growth, relationships, and Christian faith, and provide a great opportunity for discussion and fellowship among singles. All of our events are listed in the Church bulletin, on the Church bulletin boards, and on the Harbour Lights calendar page on this website. Join us at Harbour Lights where we address the needs of the single Christian adult.

Men's Friday Group
Add new dimentions to your spiritual journey. Each Friday morning from 7:00 - 8:00 a.m., men of all ages from Presbyterian, Episcopal, Roman Catholic, and other area churches and non-churched, meet in the Parlor to pray and to praise God. The hour includes spirited open discussion about the news of the day, prayer, and a lively Bible-supported discussion generated from the Daily Bread on topics relative to getting through life as a Christian.

Men's Saturday Group
Each Saturday from 8:30 a.m., the Men's Fellowship Group meets in the Parlor. Come explore a book decided upon by the group and share problems and prayer requests.

Men's Softball
Our softball team, The Flames, is part of the Membership & Communications Team of the church. It is also a member of the Christian Fellowship Softball League, based in Monmouth County, with 10 churches involved. The main focus is for men to get together for fellowship. Regular season games are played on Monday evenings from mid-April through August, except holidays. We also sponsor a fun game to benefit our church's Manna Program, which provides food to the needy in the immediate area. Participation on the team is open to members and regular visitors from ages 18-70. A family trip to a local Minor League Baseball park is also scheduled at the end of the season and is open to all.

Mothers of Preschoolers (MOPS)
Mothers of Preschoolers (MOPS) is an international, Christ-centered ministry that helps mothers develop friendships, creativity, and a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. Its purpose is to nurture every mother by meeting her distinct needs to the glory of Jesus Christ. Those needs include discovering how to become all that God has designed us to be as wives, mothers, friends, and women. We learn together, share together, and encourage one another on our journeys.

Prayer Vigil
A 24-hour Prayer Vigil is held once a month, typically starting on the first Saturday of each month (the first full weekend of the month). The 24-hour Prayer Vigil begins at 9:00 a.m. Saturday and ends at 9:00 a.m. Sunday. The Nurture Team welcomes members and friends of Tower Hill to participate in the Prayer Vigil and also to submit prayer requests. The Nurture Team has a table set up in Webster Hall after services on the two Sundays prior to each Prayer Vigil. The table will have a representative to answer your questions, a sheet on which to sign up for the next month’s Prayer Vigil, and a box for prayer requests.

Participants commit to a one-hour block of time in which to pray. More than one person can sign up for a specific slot. Participants are encouraged to come to the Chapel and use the current Church prayer list and the prayer box requests. Many pray-ers also pray at home, especially those praying during the night and early morning. There is a combination lock installed on the back entrance to the Chapel to provide increased security from 10:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m.

Women's Ministries at Tower Hill (WMT)

The purpose of the Women’s Ministries activities and events will be: Women helping women to Know Christ Grow in Christ and Sow Christ in their families and communities. We will encourage circles (small groups) and participation in gatherings planned for all women of the church and community.

Circles

A Circle is:

  • A place where faith is nurtured, and growth takes place through study, fellowship, prayer and outreach;
  • A place where Christian leadership is born, nurtured, and sent forth to minister;
  • A place where God blesses you with the gift of Christian friendships.

Most Circles meet once a month either in the Circle members' homes or at the church. The meeting times and places are published monthly in The Open Door and weekly church bulletin. Our Circles are open to all women who would like to be a part of our friendship and study. To visit or join a Circle, contact a Circle leader and attend a meeting. We would love to have you join us.

Soup and Scripture
Meets the fourth Wednesday of every month from 12:00 - 1:00 p.m. in the Parlor. Although it has kept its original name, Soup and Scripture has evolved to become a simple fellowhip where each person brings their own sandwich or salad and takes a turn bringing dessert. Church staff members speak on a topic of their choice, always Bible referenced. For more information, contact the Church office at 732 747-1348.

Young at Heart
For more than 20 years, couples, singles, retirees, (mostly senior citizens) have gathered monthly (8 times per year) in Webster Hall for a delicious luncheon followed by a variety of programs. The food is prepared lovingly by Circle members, and served by volunteers. Many people from surrounding communities attend. Reservations are strongly requested.

Programs are varied, from the educational to the entertaining, and are presented by church as well as community persons or groups.

Fellowship Opportunities
The Fellowship Club meets several times a year. All are welcome. Time and activity to be announced. Previous trips have included a trip to Radio City Music Hall for the Christmas show, dinner theater, picnics at the shore, etc.

Dining Around Members Joan Williams and Kymme Van Cleef are coordinating "Dining Around". This is a great way to meet people of the church or to renew friendships. Some groups like to meet at a restaurant, some in their homes, and some with their kids too. We have found it helpful to bring your calendars along to dinner to plan the next meeting. With our busy lives, rather than missing a month, gather three out of the four couples together for some relaxing dining and catch up with the full group the next time. However, if you have an already busy schedule, please don't sign up and continuously cancel as it is not fair to the others in the group. We want everyone to have fun!

Please contact Joan Williams or Kymme Van Cleef through the Church office at 732 747-1348 with suggestions or requests about Dining Around. Bon appetit!

Library Our church has a fine collection of approximately 1,700 Christian books, for all ages, available for borrowing. Our library is mainly located in the Parlor. Please follow the instructions posted above the card catalog drawers for checking out and returning the books.

The Library Extention that used to be available after services will be integrated into the main collection housed in the parlor and we will once more have a unified collection. Please feel welcome to browse the collection in our beautifully remodeled parlor. It is a warm and welcoming setting to discover a great read. Books are circulated by a simple self-service checkout with instructions posted on the charge out file.

Video/DVD Library: The Video/DVD Library catalog contains over 750 videos and DVDs, which may be borrowed by Tower Hill Church members and participants at no charge. Our collection comprises individual videos for children, youth, and adults plus albums for group study. We have videos with Biblical or clearly Christian themes, general entertainment videos, teaching videos, and informational videos. Most videos have been purchased, but some are of events at Tower Hill. Please contact Howard Mason, 732 747-1348 to borrow a video or DVD from that collection.
